We’re very pleased that WLMA features in a new exhibition which opened this month at the Queer Britain Museum. Our display features some of the feminist musicians, recordings, publications and ephemera of the time span covered by WLMA and includes samples of flyers, songbooks, photos, vinyl, magazines, cassette tapes and other material from our collection. Showing something of the feminist political culture of that era and the overlaps with lesbian/lgbt+/queer activism, this is hopefully another step against women being ‘hidden from history.’
A big grateful shout-out to the QBM’s Head of Programme and Collection (Curator), Jennifer Shearman and other QBM staff, and to the staff at the University of Bristol’s Special Collections Library, whose work enabled this collaborative project to be realised. Thanks also to QBM for the lovely opening night party.
There are lots of other interesting displays in the current exhibition: the fabulous Club Kali; the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre; Clause 28 campaigning, and more.
The museum, in London’s King Cross area, is open from12 – 6 Wednesday to Sunday. For more information check out https://queerbritain.org.uk
